Pair condensation and bound states in fermionic systems

چکیده
We study the finite temperature-density phase diagram of an attractive fermionic system that supports two-body (dimer) and three-body (trimer) bound states in free space. Using interactions characteristic for nuclear systems, we obtain the critical temperature Tc2 for the superfluid phase transition and the limiting temperature Tc3 for the extinction of trimers. The phase diagram features a Cooper-pair condensate in the high-density, low-temperature domain which, with decreasing density, crosses over to a Bose condensate of strongly bound dimers. The high-temperature, low-density domain is populated by trimers whose binding energy decreases toward the density-temperature domain occupied by the superfluid and vanishes at a critical temperature Tc3 > Tc2.

Pair wave functions in atomic Fermi condensates
Recent experiments have observed condensation behavior in a strongly interacting system of fermionic atoms. We interpret these observations in terms of a mean-field version of resonance superfluidity theory. We find that the objects condensed are not bosonic molecules composed of bound fermion pairs, but are rather spatially correlated Cooper pairs whose coherence length is comparable to the me...
متن کاملFermions in a Multi-Soliton Background in 1+1 Dimensions
We consider the fermionic bound states associated with a soliton-antisoliton pair in 1+1 dimensions which have zero energy when the solitons are infinitely far apart. We calculate the energies of these states when the solitons are separated by a finite distance. The energies decay exponentially with the distance between the soliton and antisoliton. When the fermion mass is much larger than the ...
متن کاملProbing pair-correlated fermionic atoms through correlations in atom shot noise.
Pair-correlated fermionic atoms are created through dissociation of weakly bound molecules near a magnetic-field Feshbach resonance. We show that correlations between atoms in different spin states can be detected using the atom shot noise in absorption images. Furthermore, using time-of-flight imaging we have observed atom pair correlations in momentum space.
متن کاملZero modes on cosmic string loops
We study the spectrum of fermionic modes on cosmic string loops. We find no fermionic zero modes nor massive bound states — this implies that vortons stabilized by fermionic currents do not exist. We have also studied kink-(anti)kink and vortex-(anti)vortex systems and find that all systems that have vanishing net topological charge do not support fermionic bound modes.
متن کاملThe von Neumann entropy asymptotics in multidi- mensional fermionic systems
We study the von Neumann entropy asymptotics of pure translationinvariant quasi-free states of d-dimensional fermionic systems. It is shown that the entropic area law is violated by all these states: apart from the trivial cases, the entropy of a cubic subsystem with edge length L cannot grow slower than Ld−1 ln L. As for the upper bound of the entropy asymptotics, the zero-entropy-density prop...
